It rained off and on (sometimes quite hard) all during my class.
After class, I bundled up and went for my walk. It started out with clear skies and wet streets. But after only a couple of miles it was raining pretty steadily.
The church down the street from my school has their ramp set up for their paso. They had a display scheduled for this afternoon, but the weather kept the paso inside.
Holy week here is of course a religious celebration - with dozens of Catholic churches calling Sevilla home, there is no shortage of enthusiasm around Easter. It is also a family celebration - many generations come together to enjoy their home procession and all of the others that line the streets, but maybe as much as anything it is an artistic celebration. Every paso, poster, and artifact is a work of art. Each procession (and there are about 60 between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday) is like a small moving museum and in addition to the pieces and bands participating in the processions, each has posters designed by local artists each year. The posters have started to appear in store and restaurant windows within the last month.
There are no signs of Easter Bunnies or baskets, but that is not to say that you can't find secular signs of Easter. It is just that they are the exception and not the rule. This plastic hen is delivering a chocolate kinderegg to a nest of small ducks with two wind up chicks on the side....?
By the time I made it home I was cold and wet - so straight into warm pajamas and under a blanket in front of the Mariner game.
