August 16 - Umbrella Peaches and Refried Beans

This morning Albert was busy and our shopping list was short - so I went shopping by myself.  Sadly, the cherry season has ended.  So, I was checking out some different fruit options.  Within the last decade, donut peaches (peaches with very small pits) have become a staple at the summer farmers market in Walla Walla.  These same peaches are available in Sevilla but are called "paraguas" - or umbrellas. I am not convinced an umbrella shaped like this would keep you dry, but they are tasty (ok, not Krispy Kreme donut tasty, but tasty).

It is amazing that beans are so popular here, but refried beans are only available in specialty stores and are wildly expensive.  So, today I attempted (for the second time) to create refried beans suitable for burritos from pinto beans with the spices that I could find.  They are not perfect but they aren't bad.  I already have some ideas for next time....
It has been really nice the last couple of days - the weather has been cool enough to open up the windows in the mornings and evenings.  The painting guys across the street make a lot of noise when they first get started and every time they move the lift, but in the evenings when the weather is cool and it is quiet outside it is fun to just stand at the window and enjoy the fresh air.  It is supposed to be 10 degrees hotter tomorrow, guess I better enjoy it tonight!  Of course, we have the luxury of air conditioning.... so life is pretty great no matter what.

Tomorrow is Friday -  it has been a really light week with two days on, one day of break, two days on, then weekend school schedule.
