December 23 - Take it from the top...

This morning, the six of us took a guided tour of the Cathedral rooftops.  It was an interesting tour that focused on the outside of the Cathedral - things like architecture and building methods.  We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny day so the views were spectacular.

After the official tour ended, we headed home, had a quick lunch, and headed right back to the cathedral.  This time we toured the inside and then headed up another long climb to the bell tower.  It is hard to even think about the number of man hours that are represented in that one building and the decorations that it contains....

After the tour of the inside, we walked across town for a quick look around the Salvador church- much smaller but also incredibly ornate.

Then we headed back to the cathedral area to look around the nativity market since it closes after today.  Although all of the stalls are interesting, the unusual characters and scenes are the most interesting to me.... the nativity scene made up of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus as Flamenco dancers, or soccer players, or native Americans....or probably the most unusual (but popular) pooping peasant (yes a figurine caught in the act) and then today we spotted a peeing peasant (complete with working water feature.

Finally it was time to head home - Rachel and Emily were kind enough to pose for a quick snapshot at these roadside Christmas decorations - sadly the tree lights were not turned on...

I made caramel corn.  Emily gave me my Christmas gift early - Cream of Tartar and Vanilla Extract; we aren't supposed to be exchanging gifts this year, but I was really happy to have the baking supplies - WooHoo!!!

We had leftovers for dinner and then watched a little football before Kathy and Ric decided to call it a night.  Rachel (who suffered the time change last week) and Kathy and Ric (who suffered the time change last weekend) and Emily (who is currently one day in to the new time zone) all started the day with coffee and then were troopers for our long day of touring.  Tomorrow we have no tickets or planned tours - we will just see where the day takes us.
